Did you know you can increase your weight loss using essential oils to help you out?

Let me cut right to the chase: weight loss is hard. And I know you came here because you need something to help make it easier. The good news is you did it! This post will teach you how to increase your weight loss using essential oils and just a few small changes to your daily routine.

First, let’s cover the basics. What is an essential oil? An essential oil is the natural oil extracted from a plant (flower, fruit, seed, peel, leaf, etc.).

This extraction is usually done by passing steam through plant material, which causes microscopic packets of oil on the plant to attach to the steam. When the steam cools and becomes water again, the oil and water naturally separate and the oil is collected and bottled.

If you’ve ever picked a leaf off a plant while on a walk and broken it, and are suddenly overwhelmed by the strong scent it emits, it’s because you’ve torn through some of the microscopic oil packets.

An Important Disclaimer:

There are some oils I recommend ingesting in this post. I ONLY recommend taking doTERRA brand essential oils internally, because I know they are Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade and are safe to ingest.

I DO NOT recommend taking any other brand of essential oils internally. The essential oil industry is unregulated, so most of the oils you find on the market contain some natural plant oil mixed with synthetic fillers that are not safe to ingest in order to cut costs.

doTERRA has taken it upon themselves to be evaluated by a third party testing organization to ensure the quality, purity, and safety of their oils.

doTERRA does not compromise on quality and they will not sell oils that don’t meet their incredibly high standards. You certainly can get essential oils that are cheaper, but you won’t know what’s in them or that they are pure and safe. These tips for increasing weight loss using essential oils will not work if you’re using oils with fillers in them.

Let the plants work their magic! Get pure oils!

Now that all of that’s out of the way, let’s get to it.

Here are my top 8 tips for increasing your weight loss using essential oils.

1. Drink Citrus Water.

Hydration is very important for weight loss. Studies have shown that between two testing groups that had hit weight loss plateaus, the group that increased their daily water intake was better able to continue losing weight and break their plateau. Obviously, water is essential to overall health and body function.

As a friend of mine likes to say, “Drink some water. You don’t want to be a wilted plant, do you?” We may not be able to see our dehydration as readily as we can see a plant’s, but thinking of hydration this way has honestly gotten me to drink a lot more water.

Add 2-3 drops of lemon, grapefruit, lime, or wild orange to your water bottle to give your weight loss a boost. It’s a good idea to start with one drop and add more to your taste. Citrus oils help your body gently cleanse itself, and shedding toxins goes hand in hand with shedding pounds. You may end up drinking more water throughout the day because it tastes more refreshing. The higher your water intake, the higher functioning your body will be.

Drinking citrus water will also help you avoid the temptation to drink other beverages, like soda or juice, which can really hinder weight loss because they add extra calories to your daily intake. When I am trying to lose weight, I try to avoid drinking any calories at all because I’m such a foodie and want to save all my calories for delicious things to eat!

2. Boost Your Metabolism with Slim and Sassy Capsules.

doTERRA has formulated a unique blend of essential oils that work together to kick your metabolism into high gear. You can take them in soft gel form, or you can buy a bottle of the oil itself and add a few drops of it to your water, if you prefer that. They even have Slim and Sassy gum that contains one drop of the essential oil blend in each piece, if that’s more your style. The blend contains Grapefruit, Lemon, Peppermint, Ginger, and Cinnamon essential oils. These oils can help manage hunger cravings, so you won’t be so tempted to snack between meals. They also promote the healthy function of your metabolism and help settle your stomach.

3. Give Yourself a Skinny Wrap Spa Treatment.

Okay, this one is a super charger. When I’m trying to lose weight, I like to give myself a skinny wrap once a week. This blend is full of oils with replenishing properties and you can mix it up yourself. Here’s the recipe:

Slim and Sassy Blend (35 drops)

Eucalyptus (10 drops)

Wintergreen (10 drops)

Peppermint (10 drops)

Lavender (10 drops)

Grapefruit (10 drops)

Put all oils in a 4oz glass, then fill the rest of the glass with fractionated coconut oil or grapeseed oil. Apply liberally to any area you are concerned with. Wrap the area with muslin or ace bandages, and then put saran wrap over that. Wrap it snugly, but not so tight that you risk cutting of any circulation. Leave it on for 1 hour, then remove and rub in any oil mixture remaining on your skin.

4. Use Clove Oil to Detox.

Clove oil contains a crazy amount of antioxidants, which are well-known for their health benefits. Antioxidants fight free radicals, which are cells in the body that may go haywire and start causing ailments. Put a drop of Clove oil under your tongue (if you’re brave enough – clove is spicy but good!) every day to do your body a favor and help it stay healthy, and you may see its higher efficiency reflected on the scale. If clove isn’t your thing, you can try On Guard, a blend that contains clove. It will boost your immune system and still get you your daily dose of clove. On Guard is also a bit spicy, but so good!

It can be easy to increase weight loss using essential oils with just a few small tweaks to your daily routine!

5. Use Essential Oils to Get Good Sleep.

Almost anything you read about weight loss these days will tell you how important getting enough sleep is. Sleep allows our body to regenerate itself, repair muscles that you’ve stressed when you exercise, and enable us to function at our highest capacity. You can’t expect your body to perform well for you if you don’t support it in return. Essential oils can be great sleep aids because of their mood-altering effects. Try using them to help you relax before bed by putting lavender, Serenity, or Clary Calm oil on your feet just before you tuck in for the night. Or you can put a relaxing oil in a diffuser in your bedroom.

For an extra dose of chill pill, try Serenity Restful Complex soft gels. They are a natural, gentle way to promote healthy sleep, sort of similar to melatonin.

Want to take it to the next level? Take a bath! Add 15 drops of lavender or eucalyptus oil and a cup of Epsom salt to the tub, and feel your worries melt away.

6. Use Lemongrass Pre-Workout.

Lemongrass has an incredibly energizing scent, and is perfect to get you ready for your next workout. Diffuse it in the room you work out in, if you work out at home. If you’re on the go, sniff it from the bottle and/or apply a drop or two to your wrists or the nape of your neck. You’ll be feeling fresh and ready for anything!

7. Use Deep Blue Post Workout.

Deep Blue is sort of like an essential oil version of Icy Hot, and it’s amazing! You can get a bottle of neat oil, or you can get a lotion. I love using the lotion because it’s easier to apply.

Either way, applying deep blue to sore muscles after a workout will feel great. I personally think deep blue is able to penetrate deeper into the muscles than Icy Hot or other similar muscle relaxants I’ve used, and it lasts a long time.

Just be sure to wash your hands well after using it – you don’t want to accidentally get this near your eyes or other sensitive areas. Also, it’s best to apply this AFTER you shower. Water can make the hot/cold tingle of this oil feel really intense. If deep blue isn’t your thing, try Aromatouch instead. Aromatouch is a massage blend that will help relieve tension in the muscles.

8. Use Oils to Manage Your Mood.

Mindset can make or break your weight loss aspirations. If you’re not feeling happy or you’re feeling some kind of lack, you may end up feeling the need to fill that lack with food. Usually junk food or sweets. Trust me, I know this well from experience.

Managing your mood is a critical component to sustaining your motivation and will power to continue making healthy choices and resisting ones that won’t get you closer to your goal.

Some of my favorite oils I keep on hand to improve and maintain my mood are Citrus Bliss, Elevation, Motivate, Lemongrass, In Tune, and Balance. In general, citrusy oils are great mood lifters.

Apply a couple of drops to your wrists, chest, or neck, and cup your hands over your nose and mouth after applying and breathe deeply.
